Welcome
Dear Prospective Parents and Students
Welcome to Rygaards School. Choosing a school is an important decision for any family. It is about academic standards, wellbeing and values โ and about the direction you want for your child.
Rygaards School is a private international school located in Hellerup. We are one school with two departments โ a Danish and an International. We have different languages and academic frameworks, but we share values, daily life and responsibility. The International Department follows the British Cambridge International Education system and curriculum, while the Danish Department builds on the Danish educational tradition. Together, we form one community.
A School for the whole family
As Denmarkโs oldest international school, founded in 1909, we have a natural outlook towards the world. Today, the school has around 1,000 students and is firmly anchored in the local area, especially Gentofte and Copenhagen. Here, the global and the local belong together.
Diversity is part of everyday life at Rygaards. Our students and families represent different languages, cultures and life experiences โ some have been part of the local community for generations, others have lived abroad, and some have connections to several countries. Regardless of background, we want Rygaards to be more than a school for your child. We aim to be a school for the whole family โ a place where you belong and engage.
A Catholic School with a Christian Value Foundation
The school is built on a Christian value foundation anchored in the Catholic, Assumption order.
We see each individual as valuable and responsible within a community. Respect, care and clear expectations create security and provide the confidence to learn and grow.
Our task is to develop each studentโs potential. We provide a strong academic teaching envoirement and a high focus on mental, social health and wellbeing. We believe that upbringing and readiness to learn begin at home, and that school and family work in partnership to support each childโs learning and wellbeing.
A Shared Responsibility
We want students to leave Rygaards with strong academic competences and with an awareness of their responsibility in their own lives and in the lives of others.
We set expectations โ of ourselves, of our students and of you as parents โ and believe that clarity, respect and shared responsibility create the best conditions for a successful school experience.
Each department has its own leadership, who will provide more detailed information about daily life and academic programmes. Regardless of department, you are first and foremost part of Rygaards.
You are always welcome to visit and experience the school just outside of Copenhagen – book a tour and get a glimpse of the everyday life at Rygaards School.
Kind regards,
Elsebeth Trap
Principal
